PTA president appalled by reported

investment fraud that hurt parents

SACRAMENTO - California State PTA President Carol Kocivar released the following statement in response to news of three parents who allegedly ran a Ponzi scheme in Southern California that defrauded more than 30 people, some of whom they met through PTA meetings and events.

"We're appalled to hear that PTA parents were among the many who reportedly were victimized," Kocivar said. "This hurtful incident demonstrates, once again, how important it is for all of us to be financially literate."

According to police reports, the three women arrested were parents of students at an elementary school in the Pomona Unified School District. The PTA is conducting an investigation to determine if any PTA funds were misused.
